If you would like to volunteer as an Appropriate Adult please go
to the NAAN MAP page of
this website. Click on your geographical area to see if there is an
appropriate adult scheme using volunteers near you. Please then
contact that organisation directly using the email address given.
Not all appropriate adult schemes use volunteers so there may not
be a suitable scheme near you.
Please do not contact NAAN direct by phone or email as
unfortunately we do not have the resources to deal with individual
volunteer enquiries.
For further information about volunteering as an appropriate
adult please see this Information Sheet: Volunteering as an
Appropriate Adult.
If accepted as an appropriate adult volunteer, the organisation
concerned should provide all
necessary training.
If you are looking for paid work as an appropriate adult please
see this Infomation Sheet:: Working as an Appropriate
Adult.
Volunteering England provide information and resources for
volunteers and volunteer managers. It has developed a useful guide for
volunteer managers and co-ordinators who wish to increase the level
of management support for volunteering in their organisation. The
guide: Influencing
Up (2010) can be downloaded
here.
The UK Workforce
Hub has developed National Occupational Standards
(NOS) for volunteer managers. These were
published in August 2008 and can be downloaded by going to
the UK Workforce Hub website and following the links to
National Occupational Standards.
They are aimed primarily at
volunteer managers in the voluntary and community sector. However
they may also be of interest to volunteer managers in the statutory
sector.
INVESTING IN
VOLUNTEERS is the UK quality standard for
all organisations which involve volunteers in their work. The
Standard enables organisations to comprehensively review their
volunteer management, and also publicly demonstrates their
commitment to volunteering. The scheme was launched in October
2004. Several NAAN members have achieved the Standard. Others may
wish to consider it. For further information on the process, costs
and other details go to investing in
volunteers
Organisations using volunteers may want to
consider the Compact Code of Good Practice on Volunteering. The
Compact documents and other related items can be found on
the Compact Voice website.
